Driving Phobia Support Group

A lot of people live and struggle with driving phobia. There are no solid statistics for the number of people who have it. However, 18.1% of all American adults have some sort of anxiety disorder. That’s about 40 million people. It’s fair to say that driving phobia is extremely common, both in the US and around the world. That’s why it’s important to find a good driving phobia support group.

What is Driving Phobia?

A phobia is a type of anxiety disorder that’s gotten to the point where you avoid the person/object/situation/activity that triggers your anxiety.

People develop anxieties about all kinds of things. Anxiety can attach itself to other people, objects, situations, and activities.

Having a phobia is actually different from having an anxiety, although the two are related.

When you’re anxious about something, you tend to avoid it.

So if driving makes you anxious, you have driving anxiety. If your anxiety about driving progresses to the point where you avoid driving, you have driving phobia.

You don’t have to avoid driving altogether to have driving phobia either. Some people’s phobia only manifests in certain situations, like driving on highways and bridges, or riding in a car.

The Importance of Driving Phobia Support Groups

Most people don’t understand what it’s like living with driving phobia. Even worse, they sometimes make fun of those of us with this condition, which pisses me off to no end.

Phobic drivers need the support of loved ones, but most importantly, we need the support of others who really understand us. People who “get it.” The best place to find such people is in a driving phobia support group.

When you find yourself in the midst of people who understand how driving phobia affects your daily living, it’s quite comforting. You realize you are not as isolated as you first thought.
